100 Amp to 200 Amp Electrical Service Upgrade in Reno

The Homeowner's Goal
What the project needed to accomplish.
The homeowner needed more electrical capacity for several planned improvements, including a hot tub, a swimming pool designed for lap use, additional dedicated receptacles in the garage for woodworking tools, and power and lighting for a detached shed. The existing 100-amp service did not provide the capacity, breaker space, or reliability needed for those projects.
Existing Conditions
What we found before starting.
The original outdoor service equipment was extremely old and showed extensive corrosion and age-related deterioration. The 100-amp panel contained older breakers, limited usable circuit space, and inconsistent handwritten circuit identification. Because the requested electrical loads exceeded what the existing service and utility infrastructure could support, this project required a complete service-capacity upgrade rather than a simple panel replacement.

Final Result
What changed for the homeowner.
The homeowner received a modern 200-amp electrical service with increased approved capacity, new service equipment and breakers, improved circuit organization, and additional room for future electrical work. The upgraded service created the foundation needed for the hot tub, lap pool, garage woodworking equipment, and detached shed power and lighting. Surge Electric completed the coordinated contractor and utility work in one day, and the installation passed inspection without required corrections.
