Emergency Basement Wiring Hazard Repair and 40 Amp Subpanel Installation in ArrowCreek

What began as an emergency call for exposed energized conductors in an ArrowCreek basement became a much more useful electrical upgrade. After making the hazardous wiring safe, Surge Electric was able to reuse and extend the existing feeder conductors to install a new 40-amp subpanel for dedicated water-softener power, additional receptacles, lighting, and security cameras.

The Homeowner's Goal

What the project needed to accomplish.

The original call was only to address exposed energized conductors that had been left open in the basement. After the immediate hazard was evaluated, the homeowner explained that she also wanted dedicated power for a new water softener, another receptacle, additional lighting, and security cameras. Instead of stopping with a basic splice repair, the project changed direction so the existing conductors could be safely repurposed into a more useful electrical solution.

Existing Conditions

What we found before starting.

The basement contained poor-quality, non-code-compliant wiring with energized current-carrying conductors left open and unsecured. Anyone working or moving through the area could have contacted the exposed wiring and suffered a serious electrical shock. Although the installation was dangerous, the conductors also presented an opportunity: after being properly contained, evaluated, and extended, they could serve as the feeder for a new basement subpanel rather than being abandoned.

Final Result

What changed for the homeowner.

The immediate shock hazard was eliminated, but the project accomplished much more than a basic repair. Surge Electric transformed the previously exposed wiring into a safe feeder for a new 40-amp basement subpanel, allowing the homeowner to gain dedicated water-softener power, additional receptacles, lighting, and security camera capacity. What began as an unplanned emergency call became a permanent electrical improvement that made practical use of the existing conductors and added long-term value to the home.
