Garage Lighting and Wall-Switch Upgrade in Reno

Upgraded a Reno garage from individually operated pull-chain light fixtures to brighter connected fixtures controlled from a convenient wall switch inside the home. Because there was no practical access above the finished garage ceiling, the new wiring was routed in clean surface-mounted metal conduit.

The Homeowner's Goal

What the project needed to accomplish.

The homeowner was tired of walking through the garage and pulling a cord at each individual light fixture every time she wanted the lights on or off. She wanted brighter garage lighting and a normal wall switch located inside the home so the entire garage could be illuminated before stepping outside.

Existing Conditions

What we found before starting.

The garage had older light fixtures that had been added near existing receptacles and were operated individually with pull chains. The fixtures were not tied together to a common wall switch, which made the lighting inconvenient to use. The finished ceiling also had no usable attic or overhead access, so concealed wiring between the fixtures was not practical.

Final Result

What changed for the homeowner.

The homeowner can now turn the garage lighting on before entering the garage and shut everything off from one convenient wall switch instead of walking to each fixture and pulling individual cords. The new fixtures provide brighter, more even illumination, and the surface-mounted conduit created a clean permanent wiring path without opening the finished ceiling.
