Microwave Tripping the Breaker: Electrical Diagnosis in West Reno

On two separate West Reno service calls, Surge Electric investigated microwaves that were not working and were tripping the circuit breaker. Professional testing isolated the problem to the appliances rather than the electrical supply serving them.

The Customer’s Goal

What the project needed to accomplish.

Two homeowners contacted Surge Electric in the same week because their microwaves were not working properly and the circuit breakers were tripping. Each wanted to know whether the problem came from the home's electrical circuit or the microwave, and what needed attention next.

Existing Conditions

What we found before starting.

Both service calls involved a microwave associated with repeated breaker tripping. Although the reported symptoms were similar, these were separate visits to two different West Reno homes. Each situation required an electrical diagnosis before identifying the likely source of the problem.

Final Result

What changed for the customer.

Both homeowners received a clear diagnosis: the electrical supply checked out during the visits, while operation of the microwave caused the breaker to trip. The findings pointed to an internal microwave fault consistent with a short; identifying the failed internal component was outside this electrical circuit diagnosis. No microwave repair is represented as part of these visits. If a microwave or another appliance keeps tripping a breaker, contact Surge Electric for professional electrical troubleshooting. We serve Reno, Sparks, Sun Valley, and Spanish Springs.
